Ours is a ledger.
A machine welts a pair in under a minute. A hand spends half an hour on the same seam — awl, boar bristle, waxed thread, one stitch at a time through leather that will outlive the person stitching it. The difference is invisible on the shelf and unmistakable in the tenth year.
We stock the work of a Chengdu atelier whose construction stands beside shoes at three times the price. We import the shoes, guarantee them, and explain them. Every claim on this site can be cut open and checked. Several have been.

The making of a pair
The Last
Every silhouette begins as carved form — the geometry of a foot idealised. Choose the last and you have chosen the character of the shoe; everything after is obedience to it.
The Cut
French and German calf — Annonay, Weinheimer — read by hand for stretch and scar, cut so the vamp takes the hide's tightest grain. This is the stage you will one day photograph and approve.
The Welt
No gemming, no canvas rib glued to the insole — the welt is sewn directly through a channel carved in the leather itself. It is the single most honest stitch in shoemaking, and the reason these shoes can be rebuilt for decades.
The Sole
Up to twelve stitches to the inch, sunk in a channel that is closed over them and burnished flat — the stitching disappears, the shoe keeps its secret. On the Artisanal line, the waist is beveled until sole and upper seem one piece.
The Finish
Colour is not applied; it is accumulated — thin veils of dye and wax, burnished between coats, so the toe carries depth no factory finish can imitate. Then six weeks are over, and it is yours.
